Through the Looking Glass
- Gregory Campisi

I look out into the world, and what do I see?
I start by always looking outside of me,
beyond myself, into the sea of life,
and when I look and I see strife,
I step away. I say OK,
these problems are not mine.
If you’re not feeling fine,
with me, don’t you see,
it’s really just you?

But what it is I do not yet realize
is that the world I see with my own eyes,
is not just what someone else has done or said,
it’s not about the words coming out of their head,
it’s about the words going into mine.
Somehow I manage to miss the divine
when I look at you. I see frustration
because it is my interpretation
and my very own belief
that disallows my relief.

The world is a looking glass reflecting
back at me and I am now protecting
an illusion in which I think I see
something moving outside of me.
You would think I see you,
but it would not be true.
Who I really see, is actually me.
How can this be?

A mirror will only reflect
back to the seer, and I detect
not a reflection of my soul, no,
but it is my own mind and ego.
Yet the reflection is reversed,
and so I have cursed
the actual mirror itself ,
refusing to acknowledge my self
because what I am unable to see
is I am staring at the backwards me.

All this began when I looked away
from my own soul this very day
and chose to look outside of me
to find the answers I did not see.
I blame the world all around
instead of standing my own ground
and listening to my heart
from the very start.

Inside
- Gregory Campisi

It is our faith in ourselves that will provide
The seed to compassion which begins inside

We are given free will, but do we make our own choice?
Within the silence, speaks the loudest voice

Questioning the world in which we know
The soul begins to stretch and grow

We follow our desires, but do they come from above?
From the shallowest dream, arises the deepest love

With our faith, hope and courage combined
We find a deeper love for all mankind

We live together, but do we still stand apart?
Inside the smallest body, beats the largest heart

Don't Mind the Heart
- Gregory Campisi

Don't worry about the Past, just Free your Mind.
Don't worry about the Future, your Soul is Divine.

Speaking in Fear, we cannot See.
Speaking in Truth, sets our Soul Free.

Desires of the Flesh, fuel the Fight.
Desires of the Spirit, bring in the Light.

A life filled with Greed, is one of Hostility.
A life filled with Love, brings endless Possibility.

Out of our Mind, we run into Limitation.
Out of our Heart, we have the Power of Creation

Embracing All
- Gregory Campisi

I become injured, so that I may heal
My heart breaks, so that I may feel

The flowers cannot grow, without the rain
To experience the Love, I embrace the pain

I relinquish my weapons, to learn how to fight
Surrounded by darkness, I find the light

All's mirrored below, that comes from above
I realize my fears, to emanate Love

I release all my tears, to discover the joy
I create with my heart, what the mind can't destroy

I have been blinded, to learn how to see
I give up myself, in order to find me

Night comes to the world, so I know the dawn
The body will die, so my soul can live on

Sometimes
- Gregory Campisi

We have to reach out before we raise ourselves up

Sometimes in worrying how far to go, we forget how far we’ve come
Sometimes we move forward, not knowing where we are from

If we cling to the bottom wrung,
we cannot grab the next one

Sometimes we have to fall the farthest, to climb to a new height
Sometimes we are cast into darkness, to rediscover the light

As one foot is set down, the other must be lifted up
or we will remain stagnant; we remain stuck

Sometimes we wonder off the path, so we can discover a new way
Sometimes it takes someone else’s eyes, to see ourselves okay

It is in the silence that the heart makes a sound
Only after everything is lost, will all things be found

Sometimes our spirit is shattered, to make it whole
Sometimes we lose ourselves, to find our soul

Sailing Along Night
- Gregory Campisi

A ship wakes in the dark night
on a lonely and disturbed sea
rocking to and fro heading into vastness

It follows a light in the distance high above
A faint glimmer in the midnight sky
shedding just enough luminescence to gain a bearing

A shimmering reflection allows sight of the emptiness
dreary and weary, they are not yet awakened
for the long night has begun to seem like a dream

Onward it trudges, blown and tossed about
a shaken, wondering crew clings to each other
hoping for a place to dock their fears
always looking back for a glimpse of where they departed

They had set sail from paradise to find heaven
and traveled the great sea of flowing life
losing faith, gaining hope, afraid of finding their way

Follow the distant incandescence
knowing they are heading in the right direction
guided by the starlight to a place they heard of long ago
all of which is now a forgotten memory

The tide begins to turn, and the great ship finds its momentum
a force is blowing, filling the sails with strength and faith
and a whisper of peace is heard from a passing bird

The distant voyage is coming to its final resting place
where the journey will be celebrated and it will set sail
once again, with a new bearing, and a new life

Leap of Faith
- Gregory Campisi

I stand at the highest point of the highest cliff.
I know I must go forward, but my legs are stiff.
I look for the other side, but it does not take form.

At the edge of the abyss I resist.
Across my view lays a fate of mist.
The ground supports my feet, solid and warm.

Behind me with outstretched arms, the world will wait.
It welcomes me and holds everything to which I relate.
I can feel it dying in my wake, and so I mourn.

My mind is racing and filling with fear,
Yet the beat of my heart is crystal clear.
For me to grasp the future, the past must be let go.

Surrounded by a world of disharmony,
I am told of the peace I cannot see.
Light is overhead, and emptiness falls below.

I pray to step in the right direction.
I look to a sign for my protection.
I will fall to the bottom or be lifted up by creation.

I leap in uncertainty wiping the tears.
The life I once rejoiced, disappears.
My faith in God is now my own salvation.

End of Mind
 - Gregory Campisi

I step across the midnight clear
and all the world's fears disappear
as the crack of dawn breaks through the earth
and the light of life comes pouring forth
the last drop of sorrow comes raining down
and I wipe it from my shining crown
a closed eye suddenly opens wide
and our choice is no longer to decide
what will happen one will know
a fading darkness brings a morning glow
to all creation's enemy
that becomes the first end of me.

The thought of nothing overruns my mind
for all intent converges mankind
as the last ray will reappear
and all the souls are standing here
waiting for this end of mine
to stop the hands of our time
and that ends in one last thought
all for nothing we have fought
and fighting nothing we now gain
what the rest of the world saw as it's pain.

The whole world comes transparently
and meaning finds no purpose as life will be
never ending now leaves nothing to hold tomorrow
without attachment the moment passes without sorrow
and every instant approaches without fear
The end of mind begins right here.

The Light of Awareness
 - Gregory Campisi

It begins as a soft glow;
a whisper of the coming winds.
It takes root and begins to spread.
Reaching out, it takes form,
like the breath of life from a newborn.

A spark emerges, and a consciousness awakens.
A cry in the dark screams with a new hunger.
A slumbering child is pulled from under.

A light shines in the dark corners of my world.
A lost flame is awakened in the deepest center of my heart.
It is ignited with warmth, life, and love, yet is only the start.

Armed with faith I reach for the sun.
A piercing light floods the horizon of humanity.
A new morning arises, more radiant than yesterday.

Insight dawns over me.
Responsibility consumes me.
Free will is my greatest enemy and my greatest gift.
I no longer ignore my right.
I forever turn to the light.

I am aware.

The Shadows of the Light
 - Gregory Campisi

I lie in the shadows of the Light.
I am asleep at day and awake at night.
My eyes are open, yet I am blind.
I look at my watch, but there is no time.
I am surrounded by Light, but I do not feel it.
I sit in the cold shadow of a world that is split.

I stand in the shadows of the Light.
Darkness surrounds me, yet salvation is in sight.
I leave where I came from, and turn from fear.
All that I have, begins to disappear.
I reach up and grasp at the sun.
The world below me comes undone.

I walk out of the shadows of the Light.
I have no wings, yet I begin to take flight.
I become numb to the disillusion.
I become one with the illusion.
I touch the Light and I am able to see.
The shadow I lived in, was from me.
